If the co-owner of your company recommends you for a raise, but his partner refuses to act on it, whose fault is it when you don’t get the raise?
Open message to E.J. Dionne, Jr. – it’s the partner causing the problem.
For reasons unknown, Mr. Dionne’s allowed to write Washington Post opinion articles. We say ‘reasons unknown’, because usually to write for large news publications one would think fact, integrity, and logic should prevail…but in his case…?
Harsh words, maybe, but how else do you describe a ‘learned’ writer who ignores ‘fact, integrity, and logic’? His latest article about the fiscal cliff is a case in point.
Dionne cites a ‘crisis in our political system’, leading us to a ‘constitutional crackup‘ which will see our ‘country fall into chaos‘…because dastardly House Republicans refuse to ‘avert a fiscal nightmare‘ by doing their job and accepting political realities. But when something that nightmarish – by his own standards – is seen heading toward us, shouldn’t relevant information be on the table?
Uuhhh, Mr. Dionne, H.R. 8, a House Republican bill extending the current tax rate (and, OMG, averting a ‘fiscal nightmare’) has been hidden since Senate Democrats refuse to allow discussion, procedures to amend, or otherwise vote on it… one way or the other.
Oh…did we mention HR8 has been jailed in the Democrat Senate dungeon since August 1st? So, when you wail for Congress “to be allowed to work its will”, it would seem Democrats have…by imprisoning legislation for months, rather than crafting it!
Mr. Dionne, the next time you mention politicians “who would rather see the country fall into chaos than vote for anything that might offend their ideological sensibilities…”
…Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid better be the target of your wrath.
Otherwise, in our opinion that village got lucky, pawning you off on the Post.
Sadly, there’s never a polygraph machine around when you need it…
Friday, the President used a solemn venue to speak on his favorite subject…himself.
And – true to form (being the classy guy that he is) – wasted no time bashing political opponent Republicans by invoking the Watergate hearings as a childhood memory.
And that’s when a BlueCollarPerspective (BCP) polygraph machine would have come in handy.
Taking his most notable comments (as posted on the White House blog)…
“I learned how our democracy was supposed to work…”
BCP – so, Mr. President, you’ve said your election is proof of a mandate…but the 230+ House Republicans – who also won their elections – don’t have a mandate? Is that your idea of how a democracy works – your election counts… theirs doesn’t?
“…that we had a system of government where nobody is above the law…”
BCP – Mr. Obama, does that exclude tax-cheating cabinet members like your Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner? Does that exclude Black Panther members found guilty of voter intimidation, yet inexplicably exonerated by your Attorney General? Does that exclude you, ignoring the Constitution by making illegal recess appointments…?
“…where we have an obligation to hold each other accountable…”
BCP – Sir, you’re hiding your involvement in Fast-&-Furious gunrunning behind your Attorney General; you’re hiding your Benghazi, Libya failures and deceit behind the skirts of U.N. Amb. Susan Rice and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Accountability?
“…these things that we stand for, these ideals that we hold dear are bigger than any one person or party or politician…”
BCP – Mr. President, you’ve trampled 200 years of property rights for union cronies, threatened to send intimidating hooligans to private business leaders’ homes, and incited supporters to consider members of the loyal opposition party as ‘enemies’…
Do you honestly believe that decent Americans hold those ‘ideals’ dear…?
Hearing this narcissistic self-serving, dishonest patter, you wouldn’t have known the President was speaking at a funeral…
Is it too much to ask that a United States President at least act…presidential?
And, please…who has fond memories of Congressional hearings… as an 11-year old?
During this morning’s monologue, Rush Limbaugh endorsed the same idea BlueCollar posted on Dec 07, http://bluecollarperspective.net/?p=44.
The context involved how to fight a media and controlling Democrat party led by Barack Obama, who insist on calling the imminent tax increase coming Jan 01 a tax ‘cut‘, in essence painting Republicans as the bad guys screwing over the middle- and low-income earners if they refuse to raise taxes on high-income earners.
We suggested that House Republicans pass a ‘Bush tax rate extension’ bill, with an amendment reducing tax rates even further for the middle-&-low income earners, then dare Senate Democrats & the President to ignore the bill, or vote down/veto it.
On today’s program, Mr. Limbaugh suggested the same “make it a REAL tax cut” idea.
We welcome Mr. Limbaugh to the exclusive “make some REAL tax cut legislation” club.
While we’re not sure our blog reaches him, we hope Mr. Boehner was listening today.
Hidden truths… and the newspapers that hide them.
No less than the New York Times reports today that the House Republicans failed to pass “fallback legislation to avert a fiscal crisis in less than 2 weeks…in an embarrassing defeat”.
And, wasted no time stating in that same article, “What he (Speaker Boehner) could not do was blame Democrats…”, implying automatic tax hikes on Jan 01 would be the fault of Republicans.
Sorry folks, in light of forty (40) House bills now molding away in the Democrat-controlled Senate, it’s a media-perpetuated myth that’s Just.Not.True. Specifically…
We refer journalist Jonathan Weisman and his NYT editors to House Bill H.R.8 and its House roll call 545, passed on 256 ‘yay’ votes (including 19 Democrats) August 01 2012, which (among other things) extends the Bush tax rates.
Did you know the House of Representatives passed legislation to extend the Bush tax rates? Did you also know that Harry Reid’s Democrat-controlled Senate refuses to allow this bill to be voted on in the Senate, all the while blaming a ‘do-nothing’ House GOP?
How could you know? And (of course), nowhere in this article are those inconvenient facts noted. Why let facts get in the way of blaming Republicans?
Sorry, Mr. Weisman, “fallback legislation” has been available to “avert a fiscal crisis” since August! The Democrat Senate refuses to vote on it!
Implying some ‘new’ legislation is the only answer, when stalled legislation that would avoid tax hikes has existed for over 5 months, is nothing less than journalistic malpractice.
And stating Democrats can’t be blamed is craven pandering.
But then…it is the New York Times…
TheBlaze journalist Will Cain asked that question on a CNN panel yesterday.
For days after the Sandy Hook tragedy, mounting demands for new laws are an hourly occurrence. 3 CNN panelists joined the chorus, prompting Cain’s pointed query.
But it does beg the question…
There are laws against: assault, theft, illegal possession of firearms, illegal transportation of firearms, grand-theft auto, breaking and entering school grounds, aggravated assault, murder, mayhem…
Lanza broke them all, to perpetrate his evil horror.
So, congrats Mr. Cain, on asking the Question of the Day.. “what law would have stopped Adam Lanza?”
And, the inevitable follow-on “what NEW law would have stopped this evil?”
Open response to Nolan W.’s email, asking if BCP has ever seen a more weak-kneed display in a politician than House Speaker Boehner on this fiscal-cliff deal…
As a matter of fact, Nolan, yes:
AG Eric Holder, refusing to come clean on Fast-&-Furious…a gun-walking program that left 2 Americans dead, and is still killing hundreds of civilians in Mexico…
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid & cohort, violating law by failing to produce a budget for 3 years, for fear of voter backlash if their out-of-control spending’s revealed…
EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, using alias email addresses to dodge agency transparency, and refusing to answer Congressional inquiries as to motive…
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, invoking the ‘concussion amendment’ so she can avoid testifying before Congress about her agency’s fatal Benghazi failures that left 4 Americans dead, and countless others wounded…
And last, but by no means least, President Obama, who to this day refuses to answer why he and his administration did NOTHING to help those Americans in Benghazi, and lurks behind ‘executive privilege’ so his role in Fast-&-Furious will stay hidden.
Compared to these Profiles in Cowardice, Nolan…? Really?
(update) The reason only Democrats are listed, Connie, is because they are in power of the elective branches of government, controlling the Senate and the Presidency.
Their actions most directly affect the day-to-day life of Americans, and should be held to account accordingly. If any FACTS are available to rebut, by all means present them…
In a press conference today, the President revealed his true agenda.
He’s been pushing the false concept that the Bush tax rates were behind our country’s economic struggles, when we all know the crisis started with a Democrat-created subprime mortgage crisis…and stretched out due to a wild Democrat spending spree.
So, today he claims that Speaker Boehner has conceded that tax rates should go up on higher income earners, as if that was the problem for the last 4 years…despite the fact that the CBO shows 2008 spending was $2.5 trillion, and we’re facing 2013 spending of $3.5 trillion – an increase of 40% over the 4 years DURING our economic crisis!
Sadly, we know the media will help him push his ‘tax-rates-did-it’ lie.
Speaker Boehner, it’s time to do the right thing.
As noted in the Dec 16 BCP article ‘This Isn’t A Zero-Sum America, Mr. Boehner’, the American electorate gave House Republicans a mandate in November.
Pass legislation that 1) extends the Bush tax rates, or 2) makes them permanent.
Tax rates aren’t the problem – $3.5 trillion in SPENDING is the problem!
Stop playing games with a media-supported lie. Do.Your.Job.
Gun Control advocates in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook School shooting are screaming for the need to eliminate gun ownership by private citizens.
What they ignore, or don’t know, is that “gun-free zones make us LESS SAFE” (John Fund, “The Facts about Mass Shootings”, National Review Online, Dec 16).
He goes on to say research has shown over the last 62 years, with only 1 exception, that every public U.S. shooting where more than 3 people have been killed occurred in gun-free zones (schools, theaters, shopping malls etc). Why make it easy for demons?
Putting this in perspective: There were 31,672 gun-related deaths in 2010 (a little over 11,000 attributed to homicide and 19,400 suicides), according to the CDC. In that same time-frame, there were 33,687 traffic fatalities. Does anyone suggest auto-free zones on the highway…? (Other than Ralph Nader, that is)
Please…stop wasting time and use some logic. Taking a law-abiding private citizen’s guns away simply makes it easier for the next evildoer to perpetrate the unthinkable.
John Lott (Fund’s research consultant) notes that the Aurora, Colorado theater-shooter had 7 movie houses showing the Batman film he was obsessed with. The killer’s choice wasn’t the closest to him… it was the only theater which had posted signs stating that legal concealed weapons were not allowed. 12 victims died in that ‘gun-free’ zone.
If just one of the administrative staff at Sandy Hook had had a concealed-carry weapon on their person last week, today’s story may have been about a thwarted killer’s lone funeral, rather than 20 children and 6 adults.
The Washington Post is an assault weapon. Unconvinced? Ask Mitt Romney…
Merriam Webster primarily defines ASSAULT as: ‘a violent physical or verbal attack’.
Merriam Webster primarily defines WEAPON as: ‘something used (as a club, knife, or gun) to injure, defeat, or destroy’. Defined secondarily: ‘a means of contending against another’.
A brick is an assault weapon. Ask Reginald Denny, the trucker who was nearly beaten to death during the Rodney King riots in Southern California in the ’90’s.
Senator Harry Reid is an assault weapon. Again, ask Mitt Romney (who, in August, pre-election, was accused of tax evasion by Reid – without Reid offering a shred of proof).
A nail file can be an assault weapon. Or a pillow.
So can a ’67 Oldsmobile Delmont 88.
The point is, the object doesn’t define itself as an assault weapon. The ACT of using it in an assaulting manner does.
Until then, it remains an unspoken slander, a pillow, an Oldsmobile, a nail file, an unwritten string of negative articles, a brick…
Or, yes, a Smith & Wesson.
