Birthright citizenship lures illegals; executive actions linking it to Rule-of-Law is a wise correction

“Trump Says He Wants to End Birthright Citizenship By Executive Order”

National Review Online’s article notes the President plans to end rights to citizenship for children born in the U.S. to illegal aliens, who then get ’85 years worth of benefits.’

As the President rightly points out, birthright citizenship “…remains the biggest magnet for illegal immigration” – ending or revising the interpretation could solve the problem.

Many would argue such status is codified by the U.S. Constitution, so it would take an amendment of the Constitution by the Congress – not the President – to fix things.

Problem is, Congress hasn’t shown much intestinal fortitude for the matter, time and again relinquishing powers to the Executive Branch…and then there’s the matter of national security – which the Executive Branch is very much tasked with protecting.

In our (admittedly layman’s) opinion, since our Constitution is founded on Rule-of-Law principles, it follows that only those residing lawfully in the USA should be eligible for birthright citizenship…illegal entry – with then, a birth – effectively steals such status.

And (layman’s opinion) a President, by right empowered to protect our national security with executive actions, could modify birthright status to require ‘legally residing’ status.

Such a revision wouldn’t end birthright status, but, logically links status to legal acts.

A wise correction linking birthright citizenship to legal residence status would also serve as an attractive magnet to desirable immigrants benefiting our Nation by their presence.

Of course, the Left will actively resist any effort to stem the tide of illegal aliens, so no one should expect the actions of such magnitude to quiet the turmoil on this issue.

After all – we live in a world where Life isn’t Life…until the Left says so.

(And, let’s face it – they’ve never been worried about encouraging illegal behavior.)

Know this…

However the President chooses to proceed on this issue, a meltdown spectacle looms.
