Senate GOP has the power to win the debate, and no excuses left

Schumer’s shutdown bluff hit a Trump wall, and collapsed after three days.

Republicans – hopefully – got the message Monday: the American public wants a sane solution to the immigration fiasco, and even Chuck Schumer read the memo.

This imbroglio was orchestrated by a businessman who knows how to negotiate. He got the leaders of Congress together, let the press cameras roll, and set the table menu

  • Border wall;
  • End chain migration;
  • End the visa lottery.

Chuck tried his shutdown – it became a 3-day opportunity to discuss the disadvantages of open borders, chain migration, and a visa lottery that does nothing to help America, and Monday’s headline at the Washington Times summed up the Nation’s opinion…

“Shock poll: Americans want massive cuts to legal immigration”

That poll was taken before the shutdown, which means political leaders (i.e., Chuck Schumer, et al) knew how America felt…and explains our ‘bluff’ reference above. He knew…but trusted a history of spineless Republicans cowering to DACA protesters.

And, for once in their miserable lives, Republicans showed resolve. Maybe it was the President’s tweets – or knowledge this little bit of sub-heading in the Washington Times pointed out: “Cutting chain migration even more popular than legalizing Dreamers”.

Going forward, Schumer has already signaled he plans to obstruct Trump’s 3 goals. In a show of solidarity (and spine) Senate GOP should make it clear they’ll nuke a filibuster.

There’s no ambiguity: the President set the terms as noted above, the American public indicates those terms are more important than ‘legalizing ‘Dreamers’- it’s showtime.

They have the power to push this through with a majority vote. If Democrats won’t work with them to come up with immigration solutions benefiting America, they should use it.

No excuses.
