FISA abuse reforms, made easy…HOLD.ABUSERS.ACCOUNTABLE.

Andy McCarthy’s article at NRO goes into detail about the necessity for FISA, and it’s (in his opinion) needed reforms to make the laws more effective, but not draconian.

But, we must understand and acknowledge abuses of law will continue, regardless of reforms. Our Feb 28 post on this subject noted that sad-but-all-too-true inevitability.

That said, the only real way to minimize abuse is to hold abusers accountable.

PERIOD.

FULL.STOP.

The entire article is worth the read, but here’s what it boils down to…

“When government officials violate the rules, that is not a rules problem; it is an accountability problem. Any rules you make can be flouted by rogues; that doesn’t mean the rules are bad.” Got That? Any rules you make can be flouted by rogues.

Therefore…

“When such powers get abused, the answer is not to repeal them or encumber them to the point where they become dead letters. The threats to the United States are not going away. The answer when powers are abused is to hold the abusers accountable.”

“…let’s press the government for answers on what’s being done to address the officials who abused their powers.”

We agree.

And, by the way…that INCLUDES complicit partisan judges.
