Make them OWN the next shutdown? Or ‘budget sweep’ the problem away?

As the Left goes bat-excrement crazy in their glee over the President ‘caving’ on the last shutdown, they and their Democrat puppets fail to realize the trap set for them in Feb.

Basically, on Jan 25th the President announced “…we have reached a deal…After 36 days of spirited debate and dialogue, I have seen and heard from enough Democrats and Republicans that they are willing to put partisanship aside — I think — and put the security of the American people first. I do believe they’re going to do that. They have said they are for complete border security, and they have finally…fully acknowledged that having barriers, fencing, or walls…will be an important part of the solution. A bipartisan Conference Committee of House and Senate lawmakers and leaders will immediately begin reviewing the requests of our Homeland Security experts — and experts they are — and also law enforcement professionals, who have worked with us so closely…Based on operational guidance from the experts in the field, they will put together a Homeland Security package for me to…sign into law.” (emphasis added)

Now, think about this – he announced reaching a deal to put together an acceptable plan, that they are for complete border security’…but all they crow about is caving…

…completely ignoring the fact the deal he’s talking about is predicated on what he deems an acceptable complete border security plan – that INCLUDES barriers.

He ended his remarks, saying “…let me be very clear: We really have no choice but to build a powerful wall or steel barrier.  If we don’t get a fair deal from Congress, the government will either shut down on February 15th, again, or I will use the powers afforded to me under the laws and the Constitution of the United States to address this emergency.  We will have great security.”

REPUBLICANS in the Senate passed a bill promising payment to furloughed workers after House Democrats shot down similar plans Republicans pushed in that body.

The President laid out the real cost of weak border security that is irrefutable.

If Democrat leadership fails to ‘put partisanship aside’ and stubbornly refuse to listen to Homeland Security experts and law enforcement on the need for a border wall, their recalcitrance will now be hard to spin as anything but senseless partisan resistance.

And considering how the President ended his remarks Friday, it will also be hard for them to condemn the man who gave Congress every chance to get it done right, if he ends up having to refuse to sign less-than-acceptable legislation…

…and is forced to invoke a national emergency executive action.

‘Caving’? HARDLY – his remarks Friday painted them into a corner.

Yet, his remarks were hardly ended before Democrat leaders Pelosi and Schumer were attacking the premise of a bipartisan deal as too costly, and not happening…even as it has been reported that ‘FY 2019 unobligated budget balances’ will be $1.156 trillion.

Got that? $1.156 trillion is $1,156 billion, sitting in government NOT BEING USED.

According to that article‘s author, Pres Trump “…can fund the entire barrier without having to declare a national emergency.  Instead, he can draw full funding for a complete border barrier from unobligated balances…” (bold emphasis added)

It’s called a ‘budget sweep‘ – been done before – and takes a few pen-strokes.

Get ‘er done.
